Welcome back Y3/4GH!
We hope you are feeling refreshed after half term and are ready for Autumn Term 2.
Topic – Scrumdiddlyumptious
Our topic this half term is called Scrumdiddlyumptious. In Geography, will be looking at where our food comes from and in particular how chocolate is made and sold around the world. In Science, we will be investigating how food and nutrition helps us grow and how our muscles work. In Art, we will be focussing on the artistic style of Quentin Blake and producing our own sketches.
In English we will be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
We will be investigating the features of recipes and will then eventually create our own to follow. We will use persuasive language to create our own adverts to advertise our very own chocolate bars. We will also be looking at fair trade around the world and create our own leaflets to explain the key points.
Reading is an extremely important part of the English curriculum and it is important that reading books and reading records are brought to school. We will practice our independent reading daily and have the chance to read to an adult during the week. In Guided Reading we will complete different activities every day related to our book.
In Maths, we will be focusing on measuring for the first couple of weeks. We will measure height and weight/mass. We will then be looking at fractions (this will include working out fractions of chocolate bars, cakes and pizzas! Yum!). We will be looking at data handling and creating our own bar charts and pictograms involving our favourite foods. We will also be looking at money and will be comparing prices of chocolate bars while working out how to give change.
We are going to have a big push on times tables as children are required to know all of their times tables by the time they leave Year 4.
Our PE sessions this year are on Monday and Thursday. Please remind your children to bring in their PE kits which should include a change of shoes (pumps or trainers). Earrings must be removed for PE.
We encourage all children to bring a water bottle to school. They are responsible for looking after their bottles and we expect them to be taken home every weekend.
Toast can be bought daily at break time. It costs 5p.
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to this half term!
Miss Hicking, Mrs Revill and Miss Stead.
