The Magic of Fairytales

Our topic for this half term is ‘The Magic of Fairytales’. During this topic we will be reading lots of different fairytales including ‘The Three Little Pigs’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘The Gigantic Turnip’.

We will be using these texts during our Literacy sessions where the children will retell the stories through roleplay and by sequencing pictures. The children will be encouraged to use ‘fairytale language’ and join in with the repeated phrases. We will be continuing to write in sentences this half term using fingers spaces, full stops and capital letters!

In Mathematics the children will be ordering numbers on the doors of the Three Little Pigs houses. They will also be creating 2D shape and 3D solid houses for the Three Little Pigs to live in. The children will be encouraged to name and describe the 2D shapes and 3D solids that they use. The children will also be continuing to use their knowledge of number to double, halve and share groups of objects.

The children will also be putting their building skills to the test. They will be creating houses out of a variety of materials – including brick, sticks and straw to see which will still be standing after the wolf has had a huff and a puff!

To conclude our topic the children will be encouraged to take part in a ‘Fairytale Dress Up’ day and come in to school as their favourite fairytale character.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and remind you that you are always welcome to come in and speak to us at any time.
